On 20 November 2007, Child Helpline Nepal was successfully launched with the toll-free number 1098. Child Helpline Nepal provides immediate emergency support and psychosocial counselling to children at risk and in need of protection. It aims to provide long term support to children by coordinating with different organisations.
The child helpline is not a new concept in Nepal as the Child Workers in Nepal (CWIN) child helpline has been operational since 1998 in six different parts of the country including Biratnagar, Hetauda, Pokhara and Nepalgunj and Kathmandu. Along with service delivery, CWIN has been continuing its lobbying efforts with concerned authorities to expand the helpline. Almost after a decade, a unique partnership among government agencies, Nepal Telecom and non-governmental organisations has led to it being awarded a toll-free number.

| LifeLine/Childline
Western Cape was established in Cape Town in 1968
and has, since then, been providing ongoing telephone
counselling, offering immediacy and an intimate
means of communication to those needing to talk.
The need for an organisation committed to the prevention
of child abuse became increasingly apparent and
in 1995 Childline became a division of LifeLine
Western Cape. On average, the crisis lines receive
around 4,500 calls per month. With offices in
Cape Town, Wynberg, Khayelitsha, Guguletu, Bishop
Lavis, Mitchell’s Plain and now in Athlone, LifeLine/Childline
Western Cape has grown considerably and now employs
113 members of staff. The majority of the organisation's
staff members work in the area of HIV/AIDS counselling
in the clinics and day hospitals around the greater
Cape Town area.
