Focusing on the children

Over 150 Grade 5 learners in Bishop Lavis left school on Friday 10 October 2008, knowing more about themselves, about keeping themselves safe, and having had a morning full of fun. The learners were all part of Childline Western Cape’s annual Children’s Day.

Ricki Fransman, Senior Manager: Childline Western Cape, said she hoped it had been a day to remember, for learners.

“We chose to have our Children’s Day in Bishop Lavis this year, and focused our efforts on the Grade 5 learners from Bishop Lavis Primary School. After introducing our organisation to the children, we told them about how to look after their bodies, and how to keep themselves safe. We then had a number of fun activities lined up for the children, including face-painting, dancing, poster-making, soccer and drumming. Our hope is that they left school on Friday able to remember the Childline number – 08000 55 555 – and having had a great deal of fun!” Ms Fransman said.

Pictured here are learners holding up the Childline toll-free number, a group showing off their newly-made beaded bracelets, and the drumming session.
