Introduction to Lifeline
At 5pm on 5 November 1968, the LifeLine telephone counselling service began in Cape Town, when the telephone rang, for the first time, in the small office in Church Street. The service has continued, uninterrupted, since then, offering anonymous, confidential, non-directive and non-judgmental counselling to anyone needing to talk, for whatever reason.
The service extended, in the years to follow, to include a face-to-face counselling service as well.
